Geddes (WSYR-TV) - If you find yourself having one too many wine slushies at the State Fair this year and you need a safe ride home, there’s an app for that.
This year, StearClear is helping keep fairgoers and other drivers safe.
To take advantage of their service, you can use the StearClear website, their iPhone or Android app, or call their 1-800 number.
The service is free.
"So we deploy a team of two, one of the drivers drives the customers vehicle and the other chases, to bring our driver to the next deployment,” said StearClear CEO Dan Glover.
Although StearClear is a company looking to turn a profit, sponsors enable them to provide free rides during the Fair weeks.
The company is still looking for more financing through sponsors because of the volume of rides they anticipate providing.
"We're proud about what we're doing, it's tough to quantify how many lives saved and DUIs avoided, but our folks feel pretty good about it so we're happy to be here,” Glover said.
If you didn't plan ahead on your home computer, or don't have a smart phone, you can also get a ride by stopping by StearClear's booth at the Fair.
There's one at gate 3 and another at gate 5. The Fair hasn't even begun yet, and some are already taking advantage.
"We've had a number of calls to reserve rides already which is great, so we're taking calls all morning long and all through last night,” Glover said. "It's really a tool, we're trying to promote responsibility in this area and the community response has been great."
