Elbridge (WSYR-TV) – A family of four in Elbridge made it out of their home safely before the house was destroyed by fire Friday evening.
More than a dozen crews responded to the fire at 4948 Foster Road around 5 p.m.
Several fire departments were needed, so they could provide water. There are no hydrants in the area and tanker trucks had to repeatedly leave the scene to get more water.
Crews initially had problems getting to the back of the house after power lines came down. They battled the fire for more than an hour.
The Ingerson family; mom, dad, and their two college-aged children; all made it out of the home safe, along with their dog. But, Rita Ingerson told NewsChannel 9 that two cats were not able to make it out.
The two children each commute to college; one to Onondaga Community College, the other to Upstate Medical University.
The entire family is getting assistance from the Red Cross.
