Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Less than an hour after we profiled him on NewsChannel 9 Friday evening, a suspected wallet thief was under arrest.

Police say the suspect is 41-year-old James Johnston of Mattydale. He was recently seen on a security camera reaching into a car parked outside the Diamond Market and stealing a woman’s purse, which was left in the car with the windows down.

The woman had taken her ATM card out of her purse and ran into the store to quickly buy some items.

Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan says his department started receiving calls about the theft just minutes after the story aired at 5:00 p.m. and they caught Johnston before 6:00 p.m.

Johnston faces a charge of grand larceny.
