Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - When you take your eyes off your wallet, even for just a few seconds, it can end up costing you. Two recent examples of this crime were Caught on Tape in the City of Syracuse, and police hope you can help them catch the crooks.
The most recent example took place at a Price Chopper store, where one customer left a wallet behind after grabbing their groceries. Very quickly, the next customer snatched the wallet off the counter and it ends up in one of the grocery bags.
"That wallet did contain an ID card, as well as credit cards. Our victim has not been contacted, the police have not been contacted, Price Chopper has not been contacted," said Syracuse Police Sergeant Gary Bulinski.
Police are asking the public to contact them, with any information about who this woman is.
"It definitely would be beneficial for her to turn herself in, to give back the property, and tell her side of the story," Sgt. Bulinski said.
Back in May,
a very similar case took place in an Eastwood Laundromat. That crime was also caught on tape, but remains unsolved.
Surveillance video caught a woman grabbing a wallet out of a grocery bag that was left on top of a dryer, and police shared that video with OnTheLookout.net. However, no viewers called detectives with information.
Hopefully, the second time around will be different.
Anyone who knows anything about either case is asked to call detectives at 442-5222.
