Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Police are looking for a suspect they say has been smashing in windows late at night to steal from businesses on Syracuse’s east side and DeWitt. Just released surveillance photos show the man detectives believe has struck at least eight times since December 5.

The suspect seems to have a particular interest in area dry cleaners, according to police, and their hoping the surveillance photos will help identify him.

Police say the suspect operates overnight and during the early morning hours and has a unique style when it comes to hats. In the pictures, the suspect is wearing a knit hat with big snowflakes on it and pom poms.

“We're confident if someone recognizes the guy and knows this person may wear that hat, they may be able to tell us who that is, and that's what we're looking for,” Syracuse Police Sergeant Tom Connellan said.

Each of the targeted businesses has since beefed up their security to prevent future intruders from cleaning them out.

Police don’t know at this point if the suspect has a connection to the businesses or if he targeted them merely knowing there might be some money inside.

If you recognize the suspect pictured, call Syracuse Police at 442-5222.
