Solvay (WSYR-TV) - Solvay Police are looking for a young man, likely a teenager, who was Caught on Tape at a Planet Fitness location in Solvay on Wednesday, March 21, from about 3:25 p.m. to 3:35 p.m., the same time a vehicle was stolen from the parking lot.

According to police, the suspect spent about six minutes at the gym. He walked past the front desk and acted as if he had a gym membership before seizing a Planet Fitness member's car keys that were hanging on the gym's key rack.

“When you have keys on the key rack, you’re at your own risk,” said Solvay Police Detective Carl Hill. “Kids learn to walk into these establishments with a certain demeanor, grab keys, and not be noticed.”

Once he had the keys, the teen was caught by a surveillance camera leaving the gym and walking into the parking lot. By using the remote key starter to activate the vehicle's lights and horn, police say the teen quickly found the vehicle and drove away.

The vehicle was later recovered on Park Avenue in Syracuse, and now  police need your help finding the teen who was Caught on Tape. And they’re hoping someone recognizes him the surveillance footage. In the video he is wearing a white shirt, blue jeans and a black backpack with white insignia at the bottom.

“Maybe they can recognize the way he walks, or the clothing he is wearing.  Maybe someone can point me in the right direction,” Hill said.

Anyone who can help Solvay Police in the case should call (315) 468-2510.
