Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse Police are On the Lookout for a man they say was Caught on Tape during a diamond ring heist at a Carousel Mall jewelry shop.
Police are encouraging the public to help identify the alleged thief who, they say, stole the ring – worth nearly $28,000 - from Littman Jewelers.
Police say the man has a distinct tattoo with some sort of writing on the left side of his neck. In the video, the man casually walks around the store for a few minutes. He appears to be well-dressed and is wearing a long-sleeved shirt, sweater vest, and slacks. When he makes his way to the display case, he asks the attendant to show him a Sitara, yellow gold, two karat diamond ring in the case. The sticker price on the ring is $27,900.
After the attendant hands the suspect the ring, he bolts out the door.
"We're not sure if he actually came in and actually cased the place and made a decision on what ring he was going to choose. We don't have him in any other video we've seen but he could have come in on another day we're not aware of,” said Sgt. Tom Connellan.
Police say he is a light-skinned black male with black hair. He is 23 to 25-years-old and weighs about 180 pounds.
Anyone with information about the man or his identity, call (315) 442-5222.
