DeWitt (WSYR-TV) - State Police are “On the Lookout" for the suspects who burglarized a NYS Thruway rest area gift shop. Investigators are hoping the public will help them solve the case.
They're looking to question a man who was caught on tape at the rest stop in DeWitt. They have no idea who he is, but maybe you do.
The surveillance video shows one of the two men state police would like to question in this case; he seen walking past a McDonalds restaurant surveillance camera.
It was a Saturday morning, around two in the morning, when it's believed dozens of packs of cigarettes were stolen from the gift shop.
The gift shop was closed at the time, but police believe the overhead security gate was not completely closed. It gave the burglars just enough space to slip under.
Nearly $250 dollars worth of cigarettes were taken. It triggered an alarm to the nearby State Police barracks.
Investigator James Hunt says the video shows two young men, clearly in the entrance to the gift shop. “They're the only ones in that area at the time the alarm went off. We see these two men exit and one walks directly past the McDonald's security and we've got a good shot of him.”
Police are hoping somebody recognizes the man and puts a name to his face.
The two men investigators want to question are described as young, probably between 18 and 25 years old, and slender.
