Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Our newest “Caught on Tape” case took place at Carousel’s Apple Store and it shows just how quickly thieves can strike.

Just like magicians, shoplifters like to make things disappear from store shelves, using what police call the “distraction technique.”

“They get themselves in a real tight circle and you can see them take things off the shelves and act like they drop something, when in reality, they’re stuffing stuff in their bags,” Syracuse Police Sergeant Tom Connellan said.

With more than $2,000 worth of goods, the suspects in this case didn’t care who was around.

“I'm sure they're going to other stores in the mall or elsewhere, probably committing the exact same crime in other places,” Sgt. Connellan continued.

If you happen to be in a place where something like this is happening, police say you should report it to the store right away. And don’t ever take a thief on by yourself.

“We highly advise against people interfering. We don’t want them to become a victim,” Sgt. Connellan said.

If you recognize the suspects pictured, call police at 442-5222.
