Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- We haven’t seen burglaries, or even burglars, quite like this before. From the way they break in, to how they dress. Syracuse Police say a woman and a man struck at least five times on the weekend of July 20 in Downtown Syracuse, then headed west.
Syracuse Police are now putting you “On the Lookout” for some unsuspecting suspects.
Police say even though they may not look the part or dress the part, these two suspects are accused in several downtown burglaries.
“When we think of a burglar, we think of a guy dressed in black, a mask on, but these two are unsuspecting and they’ve been hitting us up for a lot of money,” said Syracuse Police Sergeant Tom Connellan.
And this duo is working on the sly. There are no smash and grab type break-ins. It’s more like gentle strolls and quick pops of a door lock.
In surveillance video, the pair can be seen breaking into the Personal Fitness Gym without even breaking a sweat and it only took four seconds. Police say they hop from business to business, swiping money and laptops, often rummaging through offices. And their getaway is just as deceiving. There’s not much speed as they make their way through an alley behind a South Salina office building.
Syracuse Police say right after they left the alley in downtown Syracuse they headed to Rochester. They were caught there on surveillance video as well.
“They’re the exact same suspects. They’re even wearing the exact same clothing and committing burglaries in the city of Rochester,” Sgt. Connellan said.
The one question authorities are trying to figure out is: Are the burglars based out of the Syracuse or Rochester area?
Police are hoping you can help them answer that question. If you recognize the suspects pictured, call Syracuse Police at 442-5222.
