Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - NewsChannel 9 viewers have helped capture another fugitive from justice. Police say Michael Burke, wanted for assault in a case that revolves around his child and the child’s mother, was picked up Wednesday night.

Police say Milton, also known as Michael Burke, was taken into custody after a viewer recognized him hanging out in the 100 block of South Avenue. Police say he resisted arrest, and was in possession of drugs when they arrested him.

Burke was accused of trying to take his child from the child's mother, who has an order of protection against him.

In addition to the warrant charges he was facing, including assault, aggravated criminal contempt, and endangering the welfare of a child, he's now facing criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

Man wanted for assault: Fugitive of the Week
September 1st, 2009

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - He’s a Syracuse man with a history of violence, wanted for reckless actions and assault in a case that revolves around his child and the child’s mother.

it was Friday, August 21st when police say Milton, also known as Michael Burke, was determined to take his child from the child's mother, who has an order of protection against him. Police say he was in a car, and so was she, when he followed her from Lodi Street to Lyncourt.

Police say when she called 911, he came up to her car’s window, and smashed it out. “She got covered with glass, got cuts on her face and hands.”

Police say Burke continued the pursuit through the intersection of Teall Avenue and Roxford Road in Lyncourt, where the woman pulled over and where Burke took his child. Burke would later return his child, unharmed, to the child's mother. However, he failed to keep his promise to turn himself in to police.

Sgt. Bob Conely, with the Fugitive Task Force, says, “he's got priors for weapons possession, he is clearly a threat to her as well as the public, he's got numerous arrests, over 50 locally.”

Burke did live on Syracuse's north side, and police just checked a more recent address of West Pleasant Avenue on Syracuse's south side.  He's 5’ 4” and weighs 180 pounds.

In addition to the assault charge, Burke is wanted for aggravated criminal contempt, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. If you know where Burke is, call your tips in right now to the Fugitive Task Force at 473-7625.
