East Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Just a few hours after being profiled at NewsChannel 9's OnTheLookout.net, a fugitive accused of stealing about $30,000 worth of copper and other metals from a business in DeWitt was arrested by the Fugitive Task Force.

Bill Simmons, 47, was previously indicted for the theft, but hadn't answered to the criminal mischief charges because police couldn't find him.

Within hours of his profile appearing on The Morning News and OnTheLookout.net, investigators received calls from people in Oswego, Syracuse and DeWitt. Several addresses were checked, and information was found that Simmons worked for a temp service. Through interviews, they learned he was working in East Syracuse.

There, investigators tracked him down and arrested him without incident. He is currently being housed in the Onondaga County Justice Center.

This is arrest 209 for OnTheLookout.net.

Fugitive of the Week: Stole copper tubing
July 12

DeWitt (WSYR-TV) - Thieves can make a pretty penny by stealing copper, and police say this week's fugitive struck one business in a big way. Bill Simmons, 47, was indicted but hasn't answered to criminal mischief charges yet, because police can't find him. That's why their asking for your help.

Simmons says he collected about $30,000 worth of copper and other metals from large air conditioning units at a business near Carrier Circle in DeWitt. In the process he caused a lot of damage.

"Mr. Simmons has done this in the past," said Joe Ciciarelli, Fugitive Task Force Supervisor. "He's had over 50 arrests, from burglary to robbery, as well as resisting police when he has contact with them."

Simmons has lived in many places, including Town of Salina, Mattydale, North Syracuse, Brewerton, and Cicero.  Police say he could be anywhere.

Additionally, he's fought with police when he's been arrested, so officers do consider him to be a dangerous man.

He is six feet tall, weighs 190 pounds, has brown hair and blue eyes, and a scar on his nose.

If you see Simmons, or know where he is, give the Fugitive Task Force a call at 473-7625. All calls will remain confidential.
