Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Syracuse Police have arrested a man accused of scamming local retailers.

Nine warrants are on file for 38-year-old Bertram Chisolm. Police say Chisolm would often lurk in store parking lots, waiting for customers to drop their receipts.

"He'll take the receipts, go back in the store, pick out those exact items in the store, then bring them to the service desk and get a return or gift card in the amount of the purchase," said Syracuse Police Sergeant John Savage.

Chisolm has been arrested 24 times on theft-related charges and warrants were issued after he failed to appear in drug court.

Police say Chisolm pulled off the scam at stores in DeWitt, East Syracuse, Geddes and Camillus.

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Syracuse Police are On the Lookout for a man accused of scamming local retailers.

Seven warrants are on file for 38-year-old Bertram Chisolm. Police say Chisolm lurks in store parking lots, waiting for customers to drop their receipts.

"He'll take the receipts, go back in the store, pick out those exact items in the store, then bring them to the service desk and get a return or gift card in the amount of the purchase," said Syracuse Police Sergeant John Savage.

It's a clever scheme police say needs to stop. Chisolm has been arrested 24 times on theft-related charges and warrants were issued after he failed to appear in drug court. His family told police he hasn't been staying with them because he has a drug problem, which Savage believes is part of the problem.

"We're asking the viewers to try and help us out and see if we can pin down an address of where he is staying," Sgt. Savage said.

Chisolm (pictured) is 5'8" tall, 185 pounds and has a medium build. Syracuse Police believe Chisolm is still in the Syracuse area.

Police say Chisolm has pulled off this type of scam at stores in DeWitt, East Syracuse, Geddes and Camillus. If you know where police can find Chisolm, call the Tip Line at (315)442-5230.
