Auburn (WSYR-TV) - He was profiled just before 7:00am on The Morning News, and, by 8:00am this morning, the Fugitive of the Week was in police custody. Marco Mastrangelo, 24, turned himself in to Auburn Police after he saw himself featured on NewsChannel 9. The U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force asked viewers to be on the lookout for Mastrangelo after he skipped a May 27 court date. He was expected to plead guilty to third-degree burglary.
Mastrangelo and two other men were charged after a break-in that occurred recently on the 1600 block of West Genesee Street in Syracuse. Although his last known address had been located on Syracuse's North Side, police noted that he had more substantial connections to Cayuga County.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Unlike many of the other fugitives profiled by NewsChannel 9 each week, police are asking Central New Yorkers to be On the Lookout for a young man with no criminal history.
He was about to be given a break, but instead broke his promise to the courts and took off. The US Marshal's Fugitive Task Force thinks viewers in Cayuga County may be able to help them capture the Fugitive of the Week.
A suspected home invasion robber, criminal charges had been reduced for Marco Mastrangelo. The 24-year-old just needed to make his May 27 court date and plead guilty to less severe third degree burglary. But, he didn't show and now he's a wanted man.
"It looks like this is the first time this gentleman's been involved with law enforcement, and we should get him off the street before he does something again," said Joe Ciciarelli from the fugitive task force.
The break-in happened in an apartment on the 1600 block of West Genesee Street. The fugitive was with two other men when they forced their way into an apartment and stole a bag of prescription drugs.
"The victim knew Mr. Mastrangelo and the other two men. They had been in his apartment before, so we think that they might have staked out the apartment ahead of time, to get a hold of the medications and sell it out on the market," Ciciarelli said.
Mastrangelo has no known ties in the Syracuse area, but has connections in Cayuga County. He is 6-foot with a medium build and weighs 180 pounds. His last known address was on Syracuse's North Side.
