Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Syracuse Police are putting you “On the Lookout” for a teen suspected of stealing a car in early November.
Police say the car’s owner had either dropped his keys or they fell out of his pocket while shopping in the 600 block of South Geddes Street . When he was done shopping, his car was no where to be found.
The very next day, police say the car turned up – upside down in the 900 block of West Onondaga Street . Frank Artis, 19, is suspected of stealing the car and crashing it, taking down power lines and causing a major inconvenience for folks in the West S ide neighborhood. Police say it was lucky no one was hurt or killed in the accident.
Artis wasn’t in the car when rescue crews arrived on scene, but police found his ID and they didn’t have to look very far to find him.
“As they were investigating it, dealing with the accident itself and downed power lines, one of the officers that had retrieved the ID, recognized Artis standing in the crowd of onlookers at the scene,” Sgt. Savage said.
Artis was arrested on the spot and later given a court date, however, police say he hasn’t shown up for court.
“We do believe that he may have been spotted in the area of Fitch and Dudley as early as last week, and ran from officers. So, he is aware that he's wanted,” Sgt. Savage said.
Artis (pictured) is 5-foot-6 and 190 pounds. If you have any information on his whereabouts, call the Syracuse Police Warrant Squad at 442-5230.
