Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Police recently came very close to catching him, but it ended up being a very close call for children playing in a parking lot. Syracuse Police are now anxious for information that could lead them to Alfred Thomas.
Thomas, 23, is wanted on two warrants but is doing a good job of covering up his trail. Warrants for his arrest deal with drunk driving and a violation of his probation.
Fugitive Task Force detectives almost caught Thomas a week and a half ago, on Dablon Court, the apartment complex near 81 in downtown Syracuse. They got a tip about the silver van he was driving, and then recognized the vehicle and Thomas behind the wheel.
Instead of pulling over and getting out, what Thomas did surprised everyone. He put the van in reverse, smashed into two parked cars and then ran off.
"Mr. Thomas came very close to injuring several children playing in the parking lot," Fugitive Task Force Supervisor Joe Ciciarelli said. "It says to us, Mr. Thomas is not thinking and he could be in another vehicle, and another officer is going to get in the same situation we were in. Maybe next time, we won't be so lucky, and an innocent person gets injured."
In 2009, Thomas was arrested in the same area for selling drugs. He hasn't been seen there since the parking lot smash up, however.
Alfred Thomas is 5'9" tall and weighs 170 pounds.
Thomas has 18 prior arrests and when the find him, he'll be facing additional charges for smashing his van into parked cars and running from police.
Anyone who knows where he is can call 473-7625. As always, all calls can remain confidential.
