Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Syracuse Police need your help finding a wanted man they say may be staying with friends, or crashing in someone’s garage.
This week NewsChannel 9 and Syracuse Police are putting you “On the Lookout” for a fugitive sex offender.
A 1991 conviction for sexually abusing a 26-year-old woman landed 50-year-old Kevin Whidden on the sex offender registry for life.
As a medium risk offender, Whidden is supposed to be following some strict rules, including registering his address with police and letting authorities know of a change in address within ten days of moving. Whidden had been living on Murray Drive on Syracuse's North Side. This is the third time he's failed to register his address. The last time he failed to register his address, police caught him living in a tent in someone's backyard.
“He really is somebody who could be anywhere. A garage, a shed, any place he could get a roof over his head and some walls around him. So we're really asking viewers to help us out with this one,” said Sgt. John Savage, with the Syracuse Police Warrant Squad. “He's been arrested numerous times, felonies and misdemeanors, throughout his life.”
Whidden (pictured) is six feet tall, with a heavy build and weighs about 190 pounds.
If you know where he is, call the Warrant Squad’s confidential tip line at 442-5230.
