Syracuse (WSYR-TV) –13 members of Syracuse’s once-notorious Bricktown gang were indicted on Federal racketeering charges on Wednesday.

The Bricktown gang most recently garnered attention in Central New York when alleged member Saquan Evans was arrested on murder and attempted murder charges. According to Syracuse Police, Evans was attempting to kill Rashad Walker Sr. – an alleged member of the rival 110 Gang. When Evans misfired, he instead killed 20-month-old Rashad Walker Jr.

The death of a toddler was the epicenter of a spate of gang violence that had rippled throughout the city.

The Bricktown Gang members were arrested under the Racketeer-Influence Corrupt Organizations (RICO) act, which was designed to dissolve crime organizations. Five Syracuse gangs have been convicted since 2003 including Boot Camp, Elk Block, Brighton Brigade, East Side Gang, and 110 Gang. Four of those convictions were under RICO.

Along with Evans, (aka, “Quazy,” “Quan,” “Quaz,” “Quanny,” “Masaroti,” and “Moto,” 21) other alleged members under the indictment were:

  • Jerrell Williams, “Rugga,” “Rel,” and “Ruggarel,” 20
  • Demetrius Sullivan, “Meechie,” 23
  • Darnell Williams, “Styles,” 25
  • Matthew Cheek, “Cheeks,” 28
  • Miquan Russo, “Shyce,” 20
  • Shawntell Rush, “Sparks” and “Tells,” 27
  • Amadis Hunter, “Baldy,” 23
  • Ernest Hester, “EB,” 21
  • Jaycee Clarke, “Loonz,” 24
  • Anthony Braswell, “Pooper,” 19
  • Miguel Russo, “G-Money,” “Gell,” and “Funny,” 22

According to court papers, the indictment includes murder and other shootings, drug trafficking, firearms possession, and robbery.

Polis arrested six of the defendants on Wednesday morning. Seven of them were previously incarcerated.

In addition to Evans’ alleged murder of Walker, two other members – Williams and Hester – are suspects in a 2007 murder in which Anthony Ford and a female with him were killed.

If convicted, each defendant could face life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.
