Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Former America’s Most Wanted host and Auburn native John Walsh was in the NewsChannel 9 studio Monday night.
Walsh was in studio doing an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper about Operation Cross Country
, the nationwide FBI sting that rescued more than 100 children from a major child sex trafficking ring. He later sat down to talk with NewsChannel 9 anchor Christie Casciano.
“People don’t understand that sex trafficking is a huge international business, about a $32 billion a year business,” Walsh explained. “Everybody thinks it happens in India, which it does, everybody thinks it happens in Cambodia, which it does, but America is the number one offender and number one buyer of child sex trafficking and the number one offender and it's something that's an ugly little secret that American's don't want to talk about.”
Walsh also congratulated Casciano and On the Lookout for nearing 300 captures and credited the ability of viewers to stay anonymous when giving tips to law enforcement.
