Solvay (WSYR-TV) - After a criminal tried to get into a Solvay woman's home while posing as a Solvay Electric employee, Village leaders decided it was time to put an extra safeguard in place.
"As you look around, at all the break-ins we've had in the City, the County, this Village, our police officers are very busy," said Mayor Kathy Marinelli. "We have a lot of senior citizens and they are very trustworthy. They see village of Solvay and they let them in."
Now, anyone who works for the Village will be required to carry a photo ID card.
"We want our residents to know that if anyone identifies themselves as an employee of the Village, they will have to have proper ID. If they don't, don't allow them into the home and call us, the Police Department, right away," said Solvay Police Chief Rick Cox.
A photo ID will also be required at the village pool to differentiate between non-residents and residents, who pay less to swim.
