Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - A new online tool will allow Central New York residents to stay On the Lookout with local police. The cooperative effort of police agencies throughout Onondaga County has added hundreds of names and faces of men and women with outstanding warrants to an online database.
Originally hosting only warrants from Syracuse Police, the update announced Thursday incorporates warrants from every town and village in the county. Residents only need to type in a name to find out if someone is wanted.
"Landlords, employers and even parents who want to go to the web site to see anyone around them they may have concerns about," said Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler.
"No agency lies to have open warrants," said Baldwinsville Police Chief Michael Lefancheck. "It requires manpower, extra work to track these folks down."
Now, through the new website, everyone can help police.
Another newly introduced feature is the ability to search specifically for Onondaga County's most wanted. The option is available by clicking on the tab labeled, "Active Felony Warrants." Next to each suspect's name, their photo and charge will be displayed.
