Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Police throughout Onondaga County targeted men and women who are on the run during Operation Rolling Thunder – a week-long warrant sweep.
Teams of officers from a number of departments – including Syracuse Police, the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department, the US Marshalls Service, and State Police - selected areas in Onondaga County and plucked fugitives off of the streets.
During this year’s edition of Operation Rolling Thunder, 150 people were arrested on a total of 235 charges, including 37 felonies. Their priority targets were suspects with violent criminal histories: including weapons offenders, burglars, and gang members. Between June 13 and June 17, they took some of the most dangerous fugitives off of the streets.
“We know that a small percentage of our population commits most of the crime,” said Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler. “Whenever we can take them off the street for a period of time, we get to enjoy the fact that crime goes down.”
No one was hurt during the operation. In addition, no overtime was used.
