Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Syracuse Police are looking for an armed suspect they say attempted to rob the Poolers Grocery and Deli, located at 302 S. Lowell Avenue, Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money from a 64-year-old customer. That’s when police say the store clerk intervened and a fight ensued.

During the fight, the customer suffered a contusion to his head, but refused medical treatment, according to police.

The suspect was last seen fleeing the store on foot toward Burnet Park Zoo. He’s believed to be a tall, white male, with a thin build, wearing a short sleeve, gray colored T-shirt over a white, long sleeve T-shirt and had what appeared to be a red shirt wrapped around his head and face. He was wearing light colored pants and sunglasses at the time of the incident.

Police believe the suspect may have sustained a laceration or contusion to the back of his head during the struggle.

Anyone with information that could help in this case is asked to call Syracuse Police at 442-5222.
