Camillus (WSYR-TV) -- Police are asking you to be “On the Lookout” for a purse snatching suspect who struck in a busy Marshall’s parking lot on Monday at around 1:30 p.m.
Christine DiTrinco says she tried to be careful with her purse, but let her guard down to help a man with his cane.
“His cane fell, because he was taking his bags and I just handed it to him and went back to my van,” DiTrinco said.
DiTrinco quickly returned to her van where she found her purse, but later discovered her wallet was gone.
“I'm just so disappointed, that I feel that I was careless, not even thinking about my wallet sticking out of my purse. Then you feel like you're doing a good deed and something like this happens, so I'm disappointed and it's very frustrating,” DiTrinco said.
Police say it’s yet another case of a thief taking advantage of a parking lot opportunity.
“It just takes a few seconds to walk past a cart and keep walking, and in a busy parking you turnaround, and there are several people. Who do you look at first?” said Camillus Police Sergeant Kristen Afarian.
There’s no surveillance video, but maybe someone got a glimpse of the suspect.
“There was someone right next to the car, and saw the whole thing take place, so maybe she saw something,” DiTrinco said. She hopes police can catch the thief and that others learn from her mistake.
If you have any information that could help police in this case, call Camillus Police at 487-0102.
