Van Buren (WSYR-TV) – They are at the top of a burglar’s wish list, and they're successfully making off with plenty of them. RV lots are being targeted by thieves, but it’s not the portable homes that their after, but whats inside.
State Police in Fulton and Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies need your help curbing this latest crime tend.
The flat-screen TVs inside of the campers are attracting the thieves
At the end of May, two places got hit, a dealership in Van Buren, and one on Route 57 in the Oswego County town of Schroeppel.
Det. Ed Mcllroy, with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, says “I think they are easy to sell on the street. A lot of people prefer a flatscreen; they're easy to conceal.”
When the thieves hit the dealership on Island Road in Van Buren, they made off with seven flat-screen TVs, varying in sizes, from 20 inch to 40 inch models. Some of the TVs were valued at more than $4,000.
Police could use your help right now. They're trying to find out where the TVs ended up.
RV dealers in other cities are also seeing flat-screens ripped right off their mounts.
Investigators say at this point, they are looking at different leads. “If anyone knows of anyone in possession of a lot of new flat-screen TVs, or knows someone who is trying to sell them we would appreciate a call,” Det. Mcllroy said.
