Sedgwick (WSYR-TV) – The Greater Sedgwick Neighborhood Watch group is On The Lookout during the summer months, conducting house checks while neighbors are on vacation.
This is the second summer the group keeps an eye out on homes for vacationers. The group covers about 650 homes and started offering the service as a way to give peace of mind to homeowners in the area and combat crime.
Tony Borelli, the group’s director, says it’s all done through email. Folks send him a note telling them when they’ll be gone, and if there’s anything in particular to look out for. The note is then sent to the Northeast Police Commander, who also keeps an eye out.
“The property checks have been very popular, about 20-25 checks happened just last summer,” says Borelli.
Borelli looks out for things you wouldn’t catch from the street. He looks at all the windows and doors, looking for any sign of a break-in.

Police officers honored at “Light Up The Night” picnic
The Sedgwick Neighborhood Watch Group was one of many that gathered Tuesday night at Schiller Park in Syracuse for the annual Light up the Night Picnic.
Our own Christie Casciano was on hand, to give out appreciation awards to officers for their efforts.
The neighborhood watch groups shared ideas to stop crime from spreading in neighborhoods.
