Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The man caught on tape snatching a woman’s purse from her car outside Wegmans has turned himself in.

51-year-old Kenneth Hatter told DeWitt Police that friends and family saw him featured on NewsChannel 9, so he decided to surrender.

Hatter is charged with grand larceny and petit larceny after taking a purse from a car in the James Street Wegmans parking lot.

Police say Hatter told them he ditched the purse in the trunk of a tree where they found it still intact, minus a few dollars.

Hatter has been issued an appearance ticket and is due back in court on September 4.
