Meridian (WSYR-TV) – A viewer in Meridian says she recently received a voicemail message from the Drug Enforcement Administration asking her to return the call.

The viewer thought twice about calling the DEA and first called the NewsChannel 9 Your Stories line to find out whether or not such an agency would call her.

According to a DEA spokesperson, that agency would not contact members of the public by telephone. A scam is circulating, where criminals call people who have purchased drugs online, and order that person to pay a fine or face further action. The DEA spokesperson says the agency will never call to demand money or any other form of payment.

Anyone receiving a similar call should report it to the DEA at 1-877-792-2873.
