Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Many of you love your iPhone 4, but hate how long it takes your AT&T connection to download. We’ve got the ‘Real Deal’ on how your slow connection could be related to the amount of data you transfer in a given month.

Last summer, AT&T adopted a new policy in response to the exploding demand for mobile data. Heavy data users with unlimited data plans – the top five percent – may experience slower speeds to ease the flow of data to the company’s other users. To fit into this category, you would have to spend hours on the wireless network, not WiFi, streaming large amounts of video and music or playing certain online games. These heavy users will go through 12 times more data than the average smartphone user.

AT&T says this policy will not affect the vast majority of customers and heavy users who want faster download speeds can switch to a tiered plan. Moving forward, AT&T says it’s investing billions of dollars in the company’s wireless network and acquiring additional network capacity.
