Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – After filing three claims against his auto-insurance company in three years, a NewsChannel 9 viewer wants to know if it’s legal that his company is now refusing to renew his policy.
According to Attorney Marty Lynn at the Lynn Law Firm, it is.
He says your insurance agency can refuse to renew your policy if you have been involved in three or more motor vehicle accidents involving personal injury or property damage in excess of $200.
The agency must provide a written notice explaining why the policy will not be renewed, however. The notice provides the customer with an opportunity to either argue their case or explain to other companies why they’ve been dropped. It also discourages companies from dropping customers for frivolous reasons.
There are exceptions, however, and you should consider talking to an attorney for information that applies to your case.
