The Syracuse Department of Motor Vehicles office will no longer let you borrow a pen if you've got to fill out paperwork away from a clerk. They say too many of the pens they’ve been lending have disappeared.

It seems to me that the local DMV's are always complaining that people do things thru the mail or online, thus giving the money to the state instead of the county. This is just one more reason to avoid the local DMV. You save gas, parking fees (and the inevitable ticket when you wind up being there twice as long as you should have been), no long line of sneezing sick people, the charming clerks. Yeah, makes me want to run right down there.

you know the banks have attached pens to the counters and they are not damaged?????? MMMMMMM next time i go dinning out ill ask if i need to bring my own utensils (you know loosing utensils costs money ). imagine that "bring your own fork spoon and knife" I think business would go down so fast it wouldnt be funny. keep giving more money away to scumbags let us worthwhile folks pay for it all. cheap bastards I wonder if the state legislature in albany has a b.y.o.p. rule maybe thats why they cant get anything done AHHHHH its all clear now

Hey Capt....I am kind and work with the public....guess what ...People sign forms in front of me all day long....I would be EMBARRASSED to say "sorry..no pen for you but I will sell you one" We offer a service and have the tools for people to complete their business. So are you saying if a person ends up needing to borrow a pen they are a moron??? Hope you never walk in those shoes and if you do you're one of them...

CaptnChaos - 11/9/2009 1:36 AM
"and if it means having a pen for a person to use to complete their business, so be it.....I really hope people who blast "be prepared, bring your own pen ,take responsiblity etc have this exact situation and are told no you cannot borrow my pen then you will see how stupid and rude this is..... Its called being KIND" ......GREAT....Then YOU start being kind and get a bigger purse and ALOT more pens and start handing them out EVERYDAY at a DMV Office somewhere.....doesn't matter which one...any one will do....Let us know when you get tired of buying pens for morons.

Well the state isn't collecting the money the commission for the blind is. So I guess that eases the pain; if the state were taking the money I'd be livid. I don't have a problem helping blind people if I forget to bring a pen.

The issue is yet again we are being nickle and dimed to death. I'm sorry but I don't carry a purse nor a pen with me whenever I go. Why can't they get the pens that attach to the desk?

mom2mychildren - 11/7/2009 1:58 PM
The issue is the principle of it all....I probably have 6 pens in my purse at any given time and will probably be prepared to sign any paperwork anywhere...but for those who don't isn't it just common courtesy to be helpful, and if it means having a pen for a person to use to complete their business, so be it.....I really hope people who blast "be prepared, bring your own pen ,take responsiblity etc have this exact situation and are told no you cannot borrow my pen then you will see how stupid and rude this is..... Its called being KIND
