Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Callers claiming to represent an alternative gas and electric supplier have been contacting potential customers in Central New York lately.
HIKO’s salespeople tell potential customers that their company provides an alternative to National Grid. While many companies have offered similar services, HIKO is the newest Energy Services Company (ESCo) to the area. The company was recently approved by the State Public Service Commission.
Their sales pitch is an offer of a 7 percent savings on the cost of the person’s gas and electric supply.
If they call, their representative will ask for the person’s National Grid account number. If they’re able to obtain that, the company will be able to switch a person’s service. Potential customers must also sign a confirmation letter from National Grid confirming that they’ve agreed to the ESCo’s terms, which provides another chance for people to change their minds.
