Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- We've heard from many senior citizens who have received mailings called "notch victim" legislation. If you got one of these, it means you were born between 1917 and 1926.

A non-profit called the senior citizens league, is lobbying congress to pay you a one-time lump sum payment of $5,000 because you were born when social security benefits were calculated a different way from how they are now, and this group says, you’ve been losing out.

But the purpose of these mailings is not only to inform you of the proposed legislation but also to ask you for a donation, so the senior citizens league can continue lobbying for it.

The Real Deal? They’ve been lobbying for years, so far without much success. This legislation hasn't made it even to a committee meeting let alone the house or senate floor.
