Syracuse, New York (WSYR-TV) - We have an alert for senior citizens who live in Seneca County.  The sheriff's department tells us there's a phone scam going on there, where seniors are getting a call from someone claiming to be from Social Security.

The caller says they're contacting people 55-75 years old to send them a new card that offers additional benefits at no cost.

But then, of course, they ask for your bank account number, and once they have that, the scammers wipe you out.

If you get a phone call like that, just hang up! You'll never be asked for your bank account information or Social Security number over the phone.  If you've fallen victim, call the police immediately.
