Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – NewsChannel 9 viewers are wondering when they will be receiving refunds for the Skechers toning shoes that promised one thing, but failed to deliver.
In May, the Federal Trade Commission announced it had reached an agreement with Skechers USA to pay $40 million to its customers.
The FTC says the company deceived consumers with unfounded claims that Shape-ups would help people lose weight and strengthen their legs and abdominal muscles.
Consumers who bought the toning shoes are eligible for a refund. There is no word yet on when those settlement checks will come in. And, as with other class-action lawsuit settlements, such checks may take a long time to process.
But a refund claim can still be submitted through the FTC’s website.
To be eligible, you must have purchased Shape-ups, Resistance Runners, or Shape-ups Toners/Trainers between Aug. 1 and Aug. 13 of 2012.
The shoes retailed for anywhere between $60 and $100.
As of yet, no deadline has been set for the claims. If there’s something you want to know The Real Deal about, call (315) 446-9900 or email YourStories@9wsyr.com.
