Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A NewsChannel 9 viewer wants The Real Deal on a tire disposal fee they were charged when they traded in their car on a new one they bought.
They say the tires on their old car were too good to throw away and want to know why they still needed to pay the $12.50 fee on the purchase contract.
This is because you're not actually paying to dispose of your old vehicle's tires.
The State Budget Division says the charge helps to ensure the proper management of waste tires in New York State.
The fee is levied against the purchase of new tires in accordance with the Waste Tire Management and Recycling Act of 2003.
The revenue generated by the fee goes to the remediation of waste tire sites and other department of environmental conservation solid waste activities. If there's something you want The Real Deal about, call us at (315) 446-9900 or email us at YourStories@9wsyr.com.
