Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Some of you have you been stopped by people with clipboards at Destiny USA inviting you to register to vote and you want to know if they’re The Real Deal. Well, they may very well have been, but it’s likely we’ll never know.

Mall General Manager Rob Schoeneck says those folks walking around with registration forms were not authorized by Destiny USA. Often, he says, people will come unannounced with petitions or registration forms for various causes and if they’re bothersome you can report them to mall security.

Onondaga County Board of Elections commissioner Helen Kiggins-Walsh urges voters to be wary of anyone soliciting personal information. A voter registration form contains your name, your date of birth, signature and either the last four digits of your social security number or your driver’s license number. Anyone can download and print a form out. You don’t want that info getting into the wrong hands.

So, how do you ensure you’ll be able to cast a ballot this November? Pick up a voter registration sheet from your town or village hall, library, post office or call the Board of Elections to have one mailed to you. The deadline for most people to register to vote is October 12. You can also access a digital copy online.
