Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – We've heard from some NewsChannel 9 viewers who filed New York State tax return the old fashioned way as early as February and are still waiting on refunds.
While it does take longer to process paper returns, they're wondering if they should have received the money by now.
Geoffrey Gloak with the state Department of Taxation and Finance says about 95 percent of refunds for those who submitted their tax returns before the deadline have been mailed out, but about five percent remain.
The Albany Times Union reported earlier this month a new company contracted by the state to process paper tax returns has resulted in a delay in getting some of those checks mailed out.
Gloak wouldn't comment on that, but said the state is working closely with the contractor to provide quality assurance and ensure accuracy.
Also, refunds paid after May 30 will include interest payments.
Gloak says refunds, mainly from paper returns, are going out daily.
