DeRuyter (WSYR-TV) – NewsChannel 9 viewer Sharon Dwyer lives in DeRuyter in Madison County and she wants to know why she recently noticed a slight increase on her cable bill.

According to Time Warner Cable, DeRuyter recently passed a 5-percent franchise fee increase that went into effect on March 1.

The cable company is being charged a percentage of its revenue in exchange for rights to deliver cable services to a community.

While the municipality makes a little extra money from the fee, the cable company passes that charge on to its customers. That is why Sharon’s bill cost a bit more this month.
