Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Question: Can old strings of Christmas lights be recycled?

Answer: The Onondaga County Resource and Recovery Agency says people should contact a local hardware story to find out what kind of recycling options they have.

Homeowners are required by law to recycle their Christmas lights. The lights do contain valuable materials that can be harvested by recyclers and used to produce valuable materials to make new products.

The Home Depot has ended its efforts for the season but Lowe’s is still accepting used lights until Jan. 4.
