Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Question
: Can a local retailer refuse to hand over winnings for a scratch-and-win game?Answer
: The rule is that all lottery retailers are required to pay on a winning ticket that is valued at $600 or less.
If the prize is worth more than $600, the prize must then be claimed at a New York Lottery Regional Customer Service Center.
You can also mail the ticket with your signature on the back.
If you experience difficulty with a retailer not offering you a check or cash payment for your prize, you should contact the New York Lottery.
The Regional Customer Service Center in Syracuse can be reached 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Monday through Friday at (315) 448-4300.If you have a question for the Your Stories team, you can call (315) 446-9900 or email YourStories@9wsyr.com.
