Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Mary Ellen dropped off her clock for repairs at Karl’s Klocks 22 years ago. And in that time, she’s heard every excuse in the book.
“Every time I come over, it’s excuse after excuse: I haven’t had the time. I’ve been sick. I’ve been busy. I mean 22 years is a long time,” Ellen said.
Ellen is one of many Karl's Klocks customers who contacted NewsChannel 9 after our most recent report on the business.
NewsChannel 9 has been reporting on the frequently tardy clockmaker for years. The
recent report received a considerable amount of feedback from customers whose clocks had never been returned.
Donald Bassett dropped off a Russian cuckoo clock in April 2002. Since then, he says he’s made at least 15 trips back to the shop and walked out without his clock.
“He said he knows where it was, and he looked in the room and couldn't find it,” Bassett said.
The owner told NewsChannel 9 to bring customers to the store on Monday. He promised they would all receive their clocks.
About a half dozen customers arrived at the shop with a NewsChannel 9 team on Monday.
One customer, John Pirong, was given a clock. But he realized shortly after leaving the store that it wasn’t the item he had dropped off at the Burnet Avenue storefront in 2011.
All of the other customers left without their clocks.
NewsChannel 9’s Leigh Isaacson reported on Karl’s Klocks on Feb. 12.
He had invited Isaacson to return on Monday, but was told to leave. Karl also contacted the police during the meeting.
