Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- NewsChannel 9 viewer Sharon has been asked to submit answers to the American Community Survey. She was listening when we told our viewers last week that surveys can now be answered online, but she wants to know – Are those answers still required by law?

Well, they are. The Census Bureau’s American Community Survey helps to determine how $400 billion in Federal funding is allocated each year.

You are legally obligated to answer all of the questions as accurately as you can. And while the questions are quite personal, you shouldn’t worry about whether its safe to submit your answers. All Census Bureau employees take an oath of non-disclosure and are sworn to protect the confidentiality of the data you provide.

Got a question for the Your Stories team? We’ll try to answer it. Call 446-9900 or email yourstories@9wsyr.com.
