Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- If you walk along the shoreline of Hiawatha Lake, near the corner of Roberts Avenue and Crossett Street, you may have noticed it’s become overgrown with seaweed. The city has been known to clean up the area periodically, so why not now?

The Parks Department says it plans to weed the area this week while the water level is down for bridge maintenance. The old stone bridge, where many wedding pictures are taken, needs to be inspected to ensure it’s in good condition and safe for public use. The city will lower the water level using its overflow pipe and drain and clean up those weeds while they’re at it.

In the long-term, there’s a plan to lower the water level in the spring and harvest more weeds then.
