Camillus (WSYR-TV) -- A viewer wants to know where the Sunflower Maze is and did it ever open up this summer.
Host Chris Cesta says they opened in the second week of July, which is two weeks early. The maze is located near the Inn Between Restaurant off Route 5 in Camillus.
Cesta says the warm spring allowed them to plant the seeds a little earlier, causing the flowers to open up ahead of schedule. The hot dry weather has had an impact on the flowers too, which are much smaller this year.
Cesta says this will probably be the last week for the maze. After that, it will be two years until it returns. That’s how long it takes to prepare the soil to support the growth of the massive flowers.
Cesta is looking at the possibility of choosing another location in Camillus for the maze next time they open.
