DeWitt (WSYR-TV) - Some property on the northern end of Corporate Circle in DeWitt adjacent to Syracuse’s Hancock Airport is being cleared of shrubs and trees.

According to Airport Commissioner Chris Callahan, the obstructions are being removed both on and off airport property in accordance with a Federal Aviation rule.

Obstructions are a safety issue, she says, and the FAA has strict guidance in place regarding the removal of obstructions that could interfere with navigation, navigational aids, or navigational facilities.

As with all projects that receive federal funding, the environmental review process was followed and approved by the FAA before the start of construction.
