Auburn (WSYR-TV) -- Some drivers in Auburn have been wondering what’s going on with a utility pole that’s been left standing in the road after a construction project. The pole is at the corner of Rock Avenue and Pulaski Street in Auburn.

The pole looks out of place and it is.

“I’m thinking…this is a safety measure for kids and cars,” said Auburn resident Mark Rozel.

When Rozel noticed the utility pole he sent NewsChannel 9 a photo. Since then, crews have put up cones, caution tape and reflectors to alert people passing by.

City officials say the pole was left after the curb was moved back to make it easier for cars to turn at the intersection. Auburn says a scheduling conflict is to blame for it still being there, but the utility company will move it.

"Sometimes there are utility poles in the way, most of the time they are re-located before the project. in this case, unfortunately we had a situation where the pole is still there, the project is not complete, yet final paving still needs to be done, but the utility company is actively working on the relocation,” said Auburn City Manager Doug Selby.

The city hopes the pole is moved within the next week or so.
