Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- In the event of a power outage, you want to know whether the Onondaga County Water Authority has the power to continue to pump water to your suburban home.
The short answer is yes. If the power goes out OCWA has significant storage in excess of 100-million gallons of water. Also, most pumping stations have auxiliary power.
For the stations that do not have on-site generating capacity, OCWA has mobile generators that can be deployed to the sites in question.
Remember the Labor Day storm of 1998, when power outages were widespread? OCWA was able to keep its customers’ water flowing throughout the event and since that time the authority added additional auxiliary power and purchased additional mobile generating capacity.
