Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - If you take Maalox for heartburn and an upset stomach you may have noticed the over the counter medicine is hard to come by these days.

The company that manufacturers it, Novartis, tells us operations have temporarily slowed at their Nebraska plant for improvements. As a result, Maalox products are temporarily unavailable.

Novartis says they are working hard to resume production so Maalox can return to store shelves as soon as possible, but no specific timeframe is being given.

Last year, the Food and Drug Administration sent the company a warning letter citing several violations that had to do with its manufacturing practices.

If you have questions or difficulty finding Maalox, Novartis says you can call them at 1-800-452-0051.
