Camillus (WSYR-TV) - A viewer who drives along Airport Road in Camillus has noticed a distinct chemical odor in the air and he wants to know if it’s coming from the Honeywell dredging project in Onondaga Lake.
The Department of Environmental Conservation and a spokesperson say they have investigated several odor complaints in the area. They confirmed a few related to the waste beds.
But others stemmed from unrelated sources like burning plastic and other non-wood material. In that case, a ticked was issued.
The DEC says it will investigate every odor complaint it receives and, if it is related to the dredging of Onondaga Lake, the department will work with Honeywell to address the problem.
The project is expected to continue until 2017.
